Susunia – is a hill in Bankura district of West Bengal with an altitude of 1200 ft. and is believed to be older than the great mountain Himalaya in age. Susunia is a hill of significant archeological importance and has been a site wherefrom fossils of asiatic lions , giraffe , hyena and other animal species have been discovered. Some 4th century's inscriptions found in Susunia makes historians believe that during 4th century it was the capital of king Chandravarman and was known as Pushkarna. The king Chandravana lost his battle to the Gupta emperor Samudragupta and the area became a part of Gupta empire. This is further supported by the inscriptions of Samudragupta found in Allahabad.
